It is often said that Chokai was not modified during her life time it's only half true. I was planned to convert her to a AA cruiser like her sister Maya, but there was not a spare time to send her to a yard for that modification, but the ship got  numerous 25 mm AA guns as well as rebuild forward mast with all the latest radar types installed in the later years of the war
